May thru July Bowers family activities

On May 2nd we took the kids to the Dinosaur Museum. Brittany had been wanting to go for some time so we surprised her. We went the back way so she wouldn't recognize where we were going. She was so excited when she saw where we were. The kids had an absolute blast walking around and looking at all the dinosaur fossils. Their favorite part was uncovering the fossils in the sand.

Our annual Memorial Day trip was in Nephi Canyon. We really like this location so we look forward to going every year. The girls have fishing poles (Kylee's has a princess hat at the end for bait and Brittany's has a nemo fish at the end) so we took them to one of the ponds to "fish". Brittany kept saying that she wasn't catching anything so we may need to get her real bait sometime. But I am not quite sure I am ready to unhook a person she may accidentally get while casting her pole. This year unfortunately was a short trip. The 2nd night into it, Kylee woke up sick and didn't goback to sleep until around 5:00 am. So we packed up a few hours later and went home. We left the trailer and came back for it on Sunday. Apparently we didn't miss much due to the fact that after we left it started raining constantly. So when we got back on Sunday everyone else had also left early. Rain....our normal camping weather.

This year was Jon's dads 90th birthday party. So the whole family got together. Jon's brothers from California and Hawaii flew in with their families to join in the festivities. It was fun seeing everyone. They had family, extended family (both sides), neighbors from current neighborhood, and from their old neighborhood drop by for the luncheon. Usually when everyone is together we try to get the siblings in a pictures. This year they got both spouses and siblings in the pictures. As far as I can remember that is the first time I have seen a "full" family picture. We also got all grandkids (Kylee is covering her face from the sun) that were there (missing some) with grandpa and grandma in a picture. Our kids are the youngest so they look like they should be in the great grand kid picture....but nope, they are the grandkids. Like I said we had a fun time this day.

On June 20th we went to Lagoon as you all know. Although it rained we still got in a few dry rides and even when it rained we put on ponchos and braved the storm. As I am sure the rest of you did also. This was our kids first experience with Lagoon and they really enjoyed themselves. They want to go back again. Jon and I had fun also riding on some of the rides with the girls. Brittany's favorite part was Pioneer Village. She loved the old buildings. Kylee really liked the rides. When we went on the train ride it was raining so a lot of the animals were in their cages so we missed some. But we saw a few that were braving out the storm.

During the 4th of July we went up to the Uintah's to walk around the streams. The water was cold so I didn't venture out too far but the kids didn't seem to mind how cold it was. On July 5th we went up American Fork Canyon. The day was a little warmer so we were in the water for a longer time. Both Kylee and Brittany found butterflies and caught one so I could take their picture. We also did fireworks and a BBQ with our friends from Tooele.

These are some of our 4th of July fireworks. The kids ate icecream cones and watched. Towards the end of the firework display the wind kicked up and blew so hard it knocked over some of the fireworks and sent them down the road. One that was burning rolled around but the other stood its ground. Jon went racing down the street to gather up some of our stuff that blew away so he missed the finale. After fireworks we did some sparklers, all the kids seemed to like those.

I liked the contrast of the blue sky with the green mountains but with the picture you don't really get the true effect. (These picture are up American Fork Canyon)

On July 9th the girls and I went to Kristy and Craigs house to play on their new slide/pool. As you can see it is fairly large. It was even big enough for adults. So I got into the action with the kids. I had races down the slide with Kylee and Brittany would spray me with a water gun when I got down to the bottom. The girls had a lot of fun playing in the water and going down the slide. It was a long day and the girls were worn out by the time they got home...thankfully they didn't fall asleep in the car so the bedtime ritual went really smoothly.

On July 14th the girls and I went to see the 3D Ice Age movie. We went with a friend from Tooele and her 3 kids. Brittany and Kylee kept laughing in the movie so they seemed to enjoy it. Kylee didn't keep her 3D glasses on but Brittany did. At one point the kids had to take a potty break so I took 3 kids out with four sets of glasses. Apparently if you leave the theatre with the glasses the alarm goes off. I guess the lady saw I had the glasses and the 3 kids and said I was ok to take them out. The alarm went off again when we went back in since I carried them past the sensor again.

Everyday we try to do 1/2 hour of computer time for the girls. They really like this time because they can play whatever they want to for that time. We just go onto PBS Kids and then it is up to them.

Goblin Valley

This is our first official blog with hopefully a picture.
We went to Arches Canyon with some friends and family back in April. One of the places we visited was Goblin Valley. The kids had a blast walking through all the cool rock formations. We played follow the leader. I don't know if you can tell or not by the pictures but it was a cool, cloudy, and windy day, but we all had fun (isn't is usually stormy when our family goes camping).
